What is Hair Restoration?

Hair restoration includes a range of medical and surgical techniques designed to combat hair thinning and loss. At Hill Country Plastic Surgery, we specialize in advanced hair transplants and restoration procedures that produce refined, seamless, authentic outcomes. Whether you're experiencing early-stage hair loss or more advanced balding, we offer personalized solutions such as follicular unit extraction (FUE), hairline design, and regenerative therapies that encourage natural growth. Every treatment is performed with meticulous attention to detail and artistic balance to help you look and feel your very best.

What is the ideal age for hair restoration?

Hair restoration is most effective for individuals aged 25 and older, when hair loss patterns have stabilized. However, candidacy is determined case-by-case based on hair density, health, and goals.

Can women undergo hair restoration procedures?

Yes. Women experiencing thinning or pattern baldness can benefit from customized hair restoration solutions. Treatments are tailored to female-specific hair loss patterns and hormonal factors.

How long does it take to see results after a hair transplant?

Visible growth after transplant usually begins around three to four months post-procedure, with the most noticeable results appearing between six months and one year.

Is hair transplant painful?

Discomfort during the procedure is minimal thanks to local anesthesia. Patients may experience mild soreness, swelling, or tenderness during the recovery period.

Are non-surgical options available?

Yes. We offer regenerative therapies like PRP (platelet-rich plasma) injections and prescription medications to stimulate growth and slow further loss.

How do I know if I’m a good candidate for hair restoration?

Candidacy depends on factors like overall health, degree of hair loss, donor hair availability, and treatment expectations. A consultation with your surgeon will clarify your options.

Can hair restoration correct previous bad transplants?

Yes. We offer revision hair restoration to correct unnatural hairlines, poor growth, or scarring from previous procedures.

Are there risks associated with hair restoration surgery?

While generally safe, risks may include infection, scarring, bleeding, shock loss (temporary hair shedding), or uneven growth. Choosing a skilled, board-certified surgeon minimizes these risks.

How much does hair transplant surgery cost?

Hair transplant pricing depends on the technique used and the number of grafts needed. At our practice: FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) is priced at $7 per graft & FUT (Follicular Unit Transplantation) is priced at $5 per graft. The total cost will vary based on your hair restoration goals and how many grafts are required. During your consultation, we’ll assess your needs and provide a personalized quote.

How many grafts will I need for my hair transplant?

The number of grafts you need depends on the size of the area being treated and your desired level of density. As a general reference, an area about the size of a CD typically requires around 2,500 grafts. During your consultation, we’ll evaluate your hair loss pattern and goals to recommend the ideal number of grafts for the best results.

Will the restored hair look natural?

When performed by experienced surgeons, transplanted hair mimics natural growth patterns and direction, producing undetectable, seamless, authentic outcomes.

Can I wear a hat after hair restoration?

You can typically wear a loose-fitting hat a few days after surgery. Your surgeon will provide exact guidance based on your recovery timeline.

Does insurance cover hair restoration?

Most hair restoration procedures are considered elective and not covered by insurance. We’ll review all costs and financing options with you during your consultation.

"Both Dr. Farber and Dr. Shah are wonderfully talented and kind individuals. I had my hair transplants done there with the ARTAS system, and it was flawless. I’ve also had one minor surgery performed by Dr. Farber, which was handled with the utmost professionalism and attention. Whether it’s elective or medical, I would recommend both Dr. Farber or Dr. Shah. You won’t be disappointed."
