Smooth forehead wrinkles and open the eye area with a forehead lift (brow lift)

A brow lift is also known as a forehead lift. It is a surgical procedure that can reduce the signs of aging in the forehead, upper eyelids, and eyebrows. This is all done by raising the eyebrows. The surgeons at Hill Country Plastic Surgery perform brow lifts to lift the upper face and achieve beautifully refreshed brow arches while opening the eyes to create a more youthful look.

Why choose Country Hill Plastic Surgery for your brow lift?

At Hill Country Plastic Surgery, our plastic surgeons are New York University fellowship-trained and board certified. As leaders in the field of plastic surgery, they have years of extensive and intensive training. Our surgeons are experts in restoring contours that look natural and young and believe that each face requires an individualized approach. We use a wide variety of techniques to achieve the desired results. We understand that the relationship between patient and surgeon is of utmost importance, and pride ourselves on open communication and deep understanding of each individual patient's needs. At Hill Country Plastic Surgery, you can be confident you will receive natural-looking results that celebrate your true beauty.

Who is a good candidate for brow lift?

If you exhibit a heavy or overhanging brow, eyebrows that are lower than they were previously, and have deep transverse forehead wrinkles, you may be a good candidate for a brow lift. A brow lift can be done in conjunction with an eyelid lift. Dr. Farber and Dr. Shah will determine which technique is best for you based on the thickness and elasticity of your skin, the bone structure and volume of your face, the overall appearance of your eyebrows and eyelids, and the position of your eyebrows.

How is a brow lift performed?

There are several techniques used when performing a brow lift:

  • An endoscopic brow lift is a less invasive technique that uses two small incisions made away from the hairline into the scalp area. Tiny dissolvable implants called Endotines are used to hold the brow in the lifted position. These dissolve over time, leaving the skin and eyebrows stabilized in the newly restored and youthful position. The advantage of this technique is that it uses smaller incisions, resulting in less swelling and a shorter healing time.
  • A traditional coronal incision approach to brow lift uses an incision made behind the hairline in the scalp. This can remove forehead wrinkles, lift the eyebrow, and even adjust the hairline to a new, more desirable position. This involves a larger incision, so the recovery time is slightly longer.
  • A temporal brow lift involves the placement of two small incisions near the temple area. A temporal brow lift (often considered a mini brow lift) is best suited for patients who are looking to enhance and lift the tail end of their eyebrows or for patients who do not have the downtime available associated with a full brow lift. This approach is often combined with a mini facelift and/or upper eyelid lift.

What to expect during my consultation visit?

Prior to your consultation, we recommend that you review the procedures on our website so you are familiar with the terms we will be using during our discussion. During your initial consultation with your surgeon at Hill Country Plastic Surgery:

  • We will discuss your concerns and goals before recommending treatment options that are tailored specifically to your needs.
  • Once we identify your concerns and surgical goals, we will discuss all treatment options that are available to you.
  • Every patient is unique, and we will develop a tailored surgical plan that addresses your specific goals.
  • In addition, we will thoroughly review your medical history, surgical history, medications, allergies, family medical history, and other important details such as your family breast cancer history.
  • It is very important that we obtain accurate information in all areas, as it may impact the outcome of your surgery.
  • If you have any prior breast imaging, please send it to the office prior to your appointment.
  • While discussing different treatment options, we will perform a physical exam and take measurements that are necessary for planning for your surgery.
  • Pre-operative (before surgery) photos will be taken either at your initial consultation or during your pre-operative visit.

What should I expect after my consultation?

  • You will receive access to your notes on the patient portal in addition to information about your specific surgery. If you have not activated your patient portal, this can be done at your appointment by asking any of our staff to assist you.
  • If you have questions after your appointment, you can contact our office or message us through the patient portal. Some patients will require medical clearance from their primary care physician or a specialist or additional tests before undergoing surgery.
  • Once you have determined that you would like to have surgery and have completed any clearances and tests that were requested, contact our office at (210) 658-3555 to schedule a pre-operative appointment with one of our surgeons.

How to care for your surgical site

You may shower 48 hours after your surgery. Do not scrub the incisions. Let the water run over them and gently dab them dry afterwards. Apply gauze over the surgical site daily as needed for light drainage. Do not immerse your incisions in baths or hot tubs until at least 2 weeks after surgery.

Recovery time after a brow lift is about 2 weeks. During the first week, patients may experience some swelling and bruising. During the second week, patients may begin to go out in public. After the second week, patients may resume typical day-to-day activities.
