What is submental liposuction?

Submental liposuction, also known as "neck liposuction," is a cosmetic procedure that removes excess fat from the neck and under-chin area. It can be performed on people of all ages and is often used to treat conditions related to aging, weight gain, or genetics. Many people choose to get submental liposuction because they are unhappy with the appearance of their neck and chin area. When these areas become full of excess fat, they can make a person look older and heavier than they are. In addition, submental fat can be resistant to diet and exercise, making it difficult to achieve a slim, youthful appearance.

Why choose Hill Country Plastic Surgery for submental liposuction?

At Hill Country Plastic Surgery, our experienced surgeons Dr. Scott Farber and Dr. Amita Shah offer a wide range of facial plastic surgery procedures to help patients live happier, more confident lives, including removing double chin fat. Dr. Farber specializes in facial aesthetic surgery and uses his extensive experience and training to restore contours that look both youthful and natural.

Dr. Shah also has extensive experience in facial plastic surgery, and together they offer a comprehensive approach to rejuvenating the face. Their philosophy is not to just create a lifted neck and jowls, but also recontour the face so you appear to be a beautiful, younger version of yourself. They recognize that each face requires an individualized approach to restore the appearance of youth and use a wide variety and combination of techniques including submental liposuction to achieve this goal.

What is the recovery for submental liposuction?

Submental liposuction is usually performed as an outpatient procedure, meaning that patients can return home the same day as their surgery. The recovery from submental liposuction is typically quite short and relatively painless. Most patients report feeling sore and tender for a few days after the surgery, but this can be easily managed with over-the-counter pain medication. Swelling and bruising are also common side effects, but these usually resolve within two weeks. Within a month, most patients are completely healed and can see a significant improvement in their appearance.

Who is a candidate for submental liposuction?

It is typically performed on patients who are in good overall health and who have excess fat deposits in this area. The ideal candidate for submental liposuction should be at or near their goal weight, as the procedure is not designed for weight loss. In addition, patients should have reasonable expectations for the results of the surgery.
