What Is the STANCE Trial?

Capsular contracture occurs when scar tissue around a breast implant tightens and becomes firm. In some cases, this can lead to discomfort or visible changes in shape. Revision surgery can address these concerns, but recurrence remains a concern. The STANCE clinical trial is exploring a new approach to revision breast surgery. The study is evaluating the use of an investigational tissue scaffold during implant replacement to better understand whether it may help reduce recurrence over time.

The Investigational Approach

In the study, surgeons use a specialized tissue scaffold during revision procedures. This material is being evaluated for its potential to support the surrounding tissue as it heals.

Because this is part of a clinical trial, the approach remains investigational. Its effectiveness and long-term outcomes are still being studied, and individual results may vary.

Why Hill Country Plastic Surgery Was Selected

Participation in the STANCE trial is limited to practices with significant experience in breast surgery and revision procedures. Dr. Amita Shah and Dr. Scott Farber were selected for their surgical backgrounds, clinical involvement, and commitment to thoughtful, individualized care.

At Hill Country Plastic Surgery, each surgical plan is developed with precision and intention. Both surgeons remain directly involved throughout the process, from consultation through recovery, ensuring continuity and attention to detail at every stage.

Who May Be Eligible

You may be considered for participation in the STANCE clinical trial if you meet the following general criteria:

  • Are genetically female
  • Have capsular contracture following a previous breast augmentation
  • Are interested in revision surgery involving implant replacement of a similar size
  • Are considering an inframammary fold incision approach
  • Meet additional study-specific criteria determined during evaluation

What Participation May Involve

Participation begins with a consultation and screening process. During this visit, your surgeon will review your medical history, discuss your goals, and determine whether the study is appropriate for you.

If you qualify and choose to move forward, your procedure and follow-up care will follow the study protocol. Participation is entirely voluntary, and you are under no obligation to enroll after learning more.
