The Perfect Nose: Are you considering rhinoplasty to alter the size, shape, or appearance of your nose? If so, you probably are researching plastic surgeons and the latest trends in nose jobs. Below is more information about how this procedure is evolving.

The Evolution Of Rhinoplasty In The Millennial Age

In the last several years, ‘perfect nose’ jobs – think like a Barbie – are not as desirable as in the past.

Before, nose jobs were often about ‘perfecting’ the nose to reflect a European ideal of beauty. Essentially, the small, narrow nose was considered the goal. But in the millennial age, there are nose jobs with different goals and ideas of what entails a ‘beautiful’ nose.

The Traditional Nose Is Out Of Style

Rhinoplasty Before and After Perfect NoseMany plastic surgeons see patients who aren’t interested in the ‘perfect nose’ that was the ideal years ago. To some patients, rhinoplasty isn’t about meeting our culture’s expectations. Instead, the goal is to embrace the person’s unique look and heritage.

These patients desire is to enhance how their noses look but still keep their individuality. This is a good trend and is why rhinoplasty is becoming more common in many ethnic groups. For example, there has been a sharp increase in rhinoplasty among Middle Eastern and African American ethnic groups in the last two decades.

Patients at this time often say they aren’t looking for ‘perfect nose shapes and contours when they have facial procedures, including rhinoplasty and facelifts. Instead, they’re driven to keep their uniqueness and individuality. Some consider the European, straight nose that many patients wanted as ‘boring.’

The rhinoplasty trend is toward a unique nose and away from more by-the-numbers and cookie-cutter results. Patients want individuality and uniqueness and value their roots. Many patients in the 1990s wanted to make the nose smaller, but some today want to make it stand out more.

More Rhinoplasty Trends

Sometimes, cultural influences about the nose flow from east to west. Other surgeons report that large numbers of facial procedures are done in Southeast Asia, where a rounded nasal tip is ideal. This aesthetic change is reflected in some Western fashion models; they’ve chosen this look to appeal to more Asian consumers.

In Japan, rhinoplasty and eyelid lifts have become more popular as Western culture has merged with their society. Some believe this could be a way that they are integrating with the West overall.

But in the Middle East and India, there is a desire to keep some ‘national’ facial features, and there’s a political aspect, too. Some experts believe it’s a reaction to the colonial period in the 19th and 20th centuries. Many patients want more subtle ‘ethnic’ features in those areas, but not a ‘Western’ perfect nose. Some want a nose job and a brow lift, but they want to keep the look of their culture.

Making Rhinoplasty About The Individual

Some patients may want to boost their nose volume or size. Others may want to revise a previous nose job that gave them the ‘ideal’ European nose. Others may have had rhinoplasty decades ago and wanted the work done to look like their peers. But with age, they sometimes want their unique look.

These different types of rhinoplasty can be non-surgical or surgical. For example, a simple way to enhance the volume of a patient’s nose is liquid rhinoplasty with dermal fillers. If a filler is used on the bridge of the nose, it can offer more volume and even provide a small bump.

Many patients in the millennial age like how a non-surgical nose job looks, and there is little downtime or rhinoplasty recovery. Also, it’s not as painful as a surgical nose job.

Today People Are Interested In A Reverse Nose Job

The increasing popularity of the reverse nose job is part of a more significant trend in cosmetic surgery. This trend is about moving away from the cookie-cutter ‘perfect nose’ look and toward a look that reflects your inner beauty more.

Many plastic surgeons like this new trend; after all, there is no single standard of beauty. It varies by the individual. Diversifying beauty is something everyone should favor.

Some patients still desire the traditional nose job. However some surgeons find it beneficial to talk to people about the unique aspects of their faces and consider keeping them.

Altering our appearance with surgery while still keeping a person’s unique beauty is a beautiful idea, and hopefully, this rhinoplasty trend will continue.
